Richard B. McCune, President
GFAA founder Dr. Richard McCune, also known as ‘Doc’ in the archery world, has been known for more than forty years internationally for his work in Multi-Generatioal Family Systems. He is recognized by his colleagues as a pioneer and innovator in the field of family-owned business consultation. Throughout his profession he has worked relentlessly toward understanding the issues and dynamics of multi-generational, enterprising families of global significance. Holding sharp focus upon the succession and business-continuation needs of family enterprises, in 1997 he formed The Center for Family-Owned Business, Inc. In 1997, Doc’s special attention to launching the outgoing business leader/owner(s) into their new roles as “respected mentor/coaches” for the oncoming generations of their firms won him the recognition of the International Family Business Program Association as “one of the best minds of the generation in regards to the “Family-Owned Business”.” Concurrently, Doc has also been a sought-after lecturer and adjunct professor in medical and allied health universities. In this, his “other job” of more than twenty-five years, he has been a significant contributor and teacher in gaining an understanding of the multi-generational transmission of living system dynamics. This work, along with the efforts of his colleagues at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family in Georgetown, Washington, DC has resulted in an understanding of patterns of health and illness in all human systems (families and societies).
Over the past three years Doc has focused his long background and work in privately-held business and his more than 25 years of experience in the practice of and teachigg in clinical family psychotherapy upon his love of archery and interest in metaphorical archery, aka, Kyudo, to build out his dream to form a charitable organization to address one of society’s most significant problems, i.e., the breakdown of meaningful, relational contact within and between the generations, past, present, and future.
Larry R. Kitchen, Vice President
Larry Kitchen is a Sales, Marketing, and Management Professional with over 25 years of experience. He was in the financial service industry for over 20 years in various positions in Management, Regional Management and, national Marketing and Sales. Larry is best known for forming a Banking Sales Department, one of the first in the country, which grew rapidly to mentoring programs in “relationship banking” designed to create client relationships rather than opening an account at the point of sale. His program increased retention, profitability and, remarkable growth of branch offices. The remainder of his banking career was focused upon organizing and presenting national seminars on this subject for The Bank Marketing Association.
After his banking career Larry formed a consulting company, Lark Associates, which specialized in performance enhancement including recognition and reward of outstanding performance. More recently he was a Sales Manager for a large Real Estate company with more than 90 agents. Currently Larry uses his consulting, marketing, and photographic skills helping other business professionals grow their businesses.
Larry has also worked as a volunteer in a variety of capacities. Most notably the American Cancer Society where he served a local board as President and then moved to the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Division which was one of the major divisions in the country. During his two years as Crusade Chairman Pennsylvania Division won their first National Gold Award. Larry also was active in Sales and Marketing Executives International last serving as a Senior Vice President. He was also listed as a member of their National Speakers Group and traveled to help several affiliate groups throughout the country.
Larry has completed a number of specialized courses through Alvernia University, Albright University, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK and Columbia University, NY. For several years he was on the Adjunct Faculty of Alvernia University teaching a number of subjects for the financial services industry.
Larry is an avid skier and golfer and has been a mentor/instructor in both over many years and enjoys performance singing.
Robert L. Manning, Secretary
Following graduation from Electronic Institutes in Harrisburg in 1973, Bob held design positions with Envirotech serving the petrochemical industry and with Gatter and Diehl, consulting Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. He joined AMP (now TE Connectivity) as a design/drafter in 1977. In 1980 he joined the newly formed Engineering and Manufacturing Computer Systems group charged with implementing Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology within the corporation. In this role, Bob was responsible for customizing commercial software to AMP’s specific needs for product, mold, die, and application tooling design. He developed, documented and presented customized training to the engineering and design staff throughout the United States, Europe and the Far East. During this time, he completed 2 years of core Business Administration coursework at Elizabethtown College.
As the global user base grew into the thousands, he assumed supervisory responsibility over a team of engineering, manufacturing, and system professionals responsible for software customization, implementation, training and support. The team functioned as a business with projects including design and manufacturing-integration and automation. In addition, he implemented a custom training program.
He implemented and expanded a self-funded program to hire graduating Mechanical Engineering Technology students and expose them to a concentrated training and mentoring program. Upon completion, the candidates were seeded into various company business units as super users in corporate CAD/CAM/CAE technology. They were also instilled with an old school work ethic. Bob served on program advisory committees for Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, PA and The Advanced Skills Center in York, PA.
Bob has spent the last two years working for United Concordia Companies, Inc. in Harrisburg after joining the company at the start-up of The Active Duty Dental Program. In this role he works directly with active duty military members, military dental treatment facilities, and civilian dental providers to help assure the dental readiness of the troops for deployment.
Bob is a Life Member for the Zembo Shriners Clown Unit in Harrisburg, PA. He is also a Tall Cedar Clown with Forest No. 125 in Millersburg, PA. He is a Past Master of Mount Lebanon Lodge 226 F&AM and served as President and Vice President of the Masonic Temple Association of Lebanon, PA responsible for a million dollar fund raising and construction project.
Nick Hall, Treasurer
G. Nicholas (Nick) Hall is a Certified Public Accountant who resides in Marlton, New Jersey with is wife and Matthew, their son. He holds a Bachelor’s Science degree in business, with an emphasis in accounting, from The College of New Jersey and a Masters of Science in Taxation from Widener University.
Nick has worked as a forensic accountant for the New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics (OAE) for the past 20 years and, as such, has successfully conducted over two-hundred financial investigations. He will be retiring from the OAE in December 2011, where upon he plans to expand his private accounting firm which he started approximately twenty years ago. The focus of G. Nicholas Hall, CPA. PC, will continue to be taxation and financial/cash-flow consulting services for private and not-for-profit businesses.
Mr. Hall and his family enjoy traveling and spending time at the New Jersey shore, camping and fishing.
